A special announcement from Michelle Jacques, Director

Dear Families & Friends of Kindermusik of Cambridge/KW,

I am writing to inform you about some major changes that will be happening in the coming months.

Firstly, I have made the decision to retire from Kindermusik at the end of this school-year, at the end of June. As you can imagine, I did not make this decision lightly. Kindermusik has been my life for 30 years, but the last few have been very hard on me and a new focus is exactly what I need. To that end, I will be assuming a role in our family business and I am excited about utilizing the skills I have learned as a business owner and educator to extend to other new endeavors down the road.

My love affair with Kindermusik began in 1985 when I became a licensed educator for my very first teaching job at the Toronto Montessori Schools. I taught it there full-time for two years until bringing it home to Cambridge in 1987, where my husband and I could raise our kids in the town we grew up in and I could fulfill my dream of opening my own music studio. Looking back on all those years, as a business owner, director, distributor, teacher trainer, curriculum writer, mentor and educator, I am incredibly proud that Kindermusik has given me the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of thousands of children and families.

What an incredible journey of experiences and growth it has been … from the privilege of being able to work with our fine teachers who sink their heart and soul into every child in their care, and Rhonda, our office administrator, whose dedication to her job and passion for Kindermusik is reflected in everything she does, to the children in my classes who have blossomed in front of my eyes as I share my love of all things musical, and to the parents who have supported Kindermusik and shared their children with us even when times were tough. I am grateful beyond words to each and every one of you.

Secondly, I am pleased to announce that I have sold the KW part of our business to one of our most beloved teachers, Mrs “H”, and her husband, Adrian, who is currently in training to become a licensed Kindermusik educator and business owner. They are the perfect pair for the job of taking Kindermusik in Waterloo to the next level and I wish them every success!

Thirdly, due to the fact that there will be less work to do in the office with the KW studio off her plate, Rhonda will be concluding her tenure as a salaried employee at the beginning of April and coming in on an hourly basis as needed after that, as her availability allows.

Finally, by now you are likely wondering what will become of the Cambridge program. I am presently looking for a buyer, ideally someone with their own location, such as a dance studio or childcare facility, and who is familiar with our program because they have been involved as a Kindermusik educator, parent or in some other capacity. None of those things is a necessity, but would be an asset for sure. I would appreciate any help you can provide in sharing this info with those who are looking for such an opportunity. I plan to list it with an agent next month if I don’t find someone through word of mouth before then.

Rest assured that our Cambridge classes will continue to run until the school-year ends in June with the same caring quality to which you are accustomed. I know this is going to be very tough news for many of our dedicated families to hear. My goal is to accommodate you in every way I can, such as trying to find a new owner who will love your child, love you, and love Kindermusik as much as I do, or referring you to another location, program or teacher. As the spring progresses, I promise to keep you posted on any developments, so please be sure to open my emails and “like” our Facebook page.

For those not currently enrolled in our weekly classes, please know that we will continue to accept new registrations on an on-going basis until June 1. For new enrollments, classes will be pro-rated to reflect the number that are remaining in the school-year. Our playdates and Momstown Music will run as usual until June 30.

I know you have many choices when it comes to your child’s learning in these early years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for entrusting me to that all-important task. Your continued support in the coming months will help to ensure that the program endures.
